The European clash and historical connections. The two clubs have a historical link, also meeting in Forest's last European campaign in the mid-90s European competition, but it is the premier competition final from 1979 that entwines these two together, with Britain's first £1m player the English forward scoring the winner of a rather dull championship game to clinch eternal glory for the Forest supporters.

It's also interesting to reflect upon Malmö, who became the first, and to date the last Nordic team to advance to the ultimate game under British coach Houghton.
Tonight's game is a far cry from that pinnacle, closer perhaps to the Uefa Cup first-round tie between Forest and Malmö in that era. Forest are full of confidence after beating Liverpool 3-0 at Liverpool's home on Saturday, while Malmö haven't played officially since early November following the conclusion of their domestic campaign. The general expectation is on the English side tonight.
